Victorian 1902 basement apartment new build
Location: Capitol Hill, Seattle, WA
The ADU was intended to serve as a rental apartment in the basement of this large Capitol Hill home in Seattle. As a new build (basement was dirt when we started ) it was designed to echo the sentiment of the main house in sentiment and style, while retaining its own, unique identity.
There is no give or take a foot when you are planning to both live and work in a small space, so our design included fractions of an inch. The bedroom and the music studio were constructed in the back towards the common hallway and away from the windows. We then brought the kitchen forward and opened it up along the north wall.
These Houzz clients hired Belltown Design due to our track record in compact space solutions! The remodel involved turning an ordinary, “ho hum” living room, into a fine, handmade, Craftsman-style space. Our overall concept was Nature, and we used cherry wood throughout – trim, entry closet, fireplace mantel/surround and built-ins.
