Our Top 10 Vintage, Antique and Reproduction Hardware Stores

House Hardware Heaven! – Local, National, Online and Brick & Mortar

Old door knobs, pulls, levers and knockers are all the rage now. My fellow hardware buffs and I have been known to come unhinged while talking about our latest find in a vintage hardware store. Dust covered bronze or brass, iron and steel jewels are in high demand. For years we have lusted after these beauties as if they were the treasure of Sierra Madre.

In looking for my own “treasure”, I did some research and created a list of top 11 favorite places to go to shop for vintage and antique reproduction house hardware – both online and brick and mortar – based upon the following criteria:

  • Overall quality of both antique and reproduction styles
  • Level of customer service, customer support
  • Packed appropriately and shipped in a timely fashion
  • Period authenticity and educational component
  • Accuracy of product photos online – does representation reflect reality?
  • Ease of installation of their products
  • Period authenticity and educational component
  • Ease of shopping experience
  • For Websites: look and feel – navigation, organization, photography
  • If brick and mortars: the ease at which you can poke and hunt around
  • REJUVENATION, SEATTLE, WA

Rejuvenation is my absolute favorite! The company lives in the Nisqually Building, circa 1902, here in Seattle. Rejuvenation is always located in historic buildings; this one, an old railcar factory (gas speeders). This company has three more stores, besides; – Portland, Ore. (home of Rejuvenation!), Seattle, Los Angeles, Berkeley, Palo Alto, and Atlanta. They carry the cream of the crop of door and cabinet knobs, knockers, pulls and hinges.

    HOUSE OF ANTIQUE HARDWARE

This place specializing in antique reproductions is strictly a website based store – a great one to shop by styles. These include Colonial, Classical, Victorian, Arts and Crafts, Romantic, Art Deco and Mid Century Modern. Interesting historical commentaries about particular pieces and a very informative glossary of house part terms, FAQs, and architectural timeline!

    LIZ’S ANTIQUE HARDWARE

Liz’s is a gold mine in Los Angeles! Amazing Victorian and Eastlake collections, along with rare-find Spanish revival hardware to integrate into your hacienda! (We do have a few of those buildings here in the Emerald City). This website features a hardware matching service…wow!

    VINTAGE HARDWARE & LIGHTING

Not too far from home, this store is out on the Olympic Peninsula in Port Townsend, Washington. Totally worth the trip – including the ferry crossing, and combined it with a visit to the Art Deco Museum out there. Port Townsend is full of early 20th century Victorian homes and it’s great place to just drive around town and look! The website is thorough, indicating a wealth of inventory, and is as much fun to poke around as the store itself.

    ROCKY MOUNTAIN HARDWARE

This company is in Idaho and partners with well-respected artisans to hand-cast and create new and unique hardware collections. The website can be viewed by style line or artisan’s name, and contains a beautiful array of options. This company’s humble beginnings came from the fact that architects, designers, and builders from the upscale Sun Valley, Idaho market were repeatedly asking for something that just didn’t exist. This led to RMH’s custom bronze work and, as the need arose, the company customized. With the market for a new line of hardware, a simple, handcrafted look came into being and worked equally as well in a rustic log home, a Mediterranean-style villa, a French country house, or a more contemporary-style project.

    EUGENIA”S ANTIQUE HARDWARE

Eugenia’s carries only authentic antique hardware, no reproductions. Their 3500 square foot showroom is located in the Atlanta, GA. area. This family owned business can be shopped either online or in person. All salvaged hardware selections are fully cleaned, restored and ready for installation and use.

    NOTTINGHAM DECORATIVE HARDWARE

Notting Hill creates high-end decorative cabinet hardware. All products are hand-cast of solid pewter and bronze in a variety of finishes. This product has exceptional detail and craftsmanship and is handmade in the US. Notting Hill hardware collections are applicable to many period authentic styles along with tropical and whimsical pulls and knobs. The website is beautiful and the Notting Hill brand is available in showrooms throughout the US and Canada. When this company says ‘the beauty is in the details’, they mean it!

    CHARLESTON HARDWARE COMPANY

This company manufactures most of their product line offered on their website and has a constantly changing inventory of antique and reproduction hardware. Charleston also ‘hardware matching’, and antique restorations. If you want to visit their warehouse in Charleston NC, appointments are available. With a multitude of products on-site and more in the warehouse, you are bound to find what you are looking for!

The store is jam-packed with an eclectic mix, and is a hand tool paradise too! While their selection is small, it contains treasures that can be found both online and in store.
